My Dear Members,
Although Labor Day marks the unofficial end of Summer, we who live near the beach are still enjoying the warm weather that will eventually lead into Fall. We are so blessed!
As I write this note, I am looking forward, to the debate on Tuesday evening, September 10 the . When you read this message, the debate will hopefully be a memory that gave the people of our country a true picture of the choice that needs to be made on this election day. I pray that our conservative values will prevail.
The next few months are filled with opportunities to help promote the Republican cause, including sign waving on Route 50, volunteering at the GOP Headquarters located behind Sherwin Williams and making phone calls for the GOP and for Referendum #1, right from your cell phone. Early voting begins on October 24 and runs through Oct. 31. We will be asking for some members to volunteer to be at the Republican Central Committee tent giving out various brochures and signs to those coming to vote. Deb Dills, Our Campaign Activities Chair will keep you informed about these projects.
Last year, was the first time some of our members participated in packing Care Packages for Veterans. Again, this year we can help with this cause by gathering at the OP Yacht Club on October 13, at 11:30 to help fill packages for veterans. If you need information about this or another project our Caring for America Committee is planning for late October, please read Vera Beck’s Caring for America report in this Newsletter.
Look for an Ad we sponsored in the Courier the week of September 9. It is part of a feature celebrating the Anniversary of the United States Constitution. Chip Bertino, the editor, wrote me last week and informed me that the Worcester County Veterans Memorial at Ocean Pines agreed to provide a copy of the Courier’s Constitution Feature to each of the 650 fifth grade students who visit the Memorial during education field trips. Each year docents instruct visiting students on the sacrifices of those honored at the Memorial, US flag etiquette, and US history. Our sponsorship makes possible for these students to also learn about the US Constitution. This feature will be included with the book each student receives at the conclusion of their visit.
Our Fashion Show Committee has been working nonstop to make this year’s event a success! Thanks to them and to all members who helped by soliciting gift cards from local merchants and donating their member donated gift cards. We always have a great time with our friends, both members and non-members and this year proves to be more of the same!
Looking forward to November 21! We will be celebrating our 40 the Anniversary at the Yacht Club in Ocean Pines. Please see the brochure in the Newsletter concerning menu and how you can make a reservation. A Champagne toast, a commemorative souvenir in addition to a wonderful dinner is included. We will be honoring all Past Presidents of our club and some who started our club in 1984! Thanks to Raye Simpson, Awards Chair, our past and current Awards will be on display as well as some old photos and newspaper clippings of our club activities thanks to Linda Sirianni, our Historian. We will have a Basket of Cheer and a Thanksgiving Basket to raffle off! Hope you can attend and help celebrate this occasion.
Last but certainly not least, Mary (Weezie) Carey informed the Board that she will not be coordinating the Newsletter after this September issue. We thank Weezie for her hours of volunteering over the past few years.
Have a Great Month!
Jean Delcher
God bless each of you, and God bless the United States of America!
